Jiu Jitsu

Our Story

Grappling came to prominence in ancient Greece. Palé (Greek Wrestling) was the first competition allowed into the ancient Olympic Games that wasn’t a foot race. The forces of globalization spread grappling to Asia where Japanese Jiu Jitsu and Judo took prominence. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu became one of the most dominant grappling forms by way of the Gracie family. Eddie Bravo, a student of Jean Jacques Machado, further revolutionized the sport by setting aside the gi and adapting Jiu Jitsu to other sports such as Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

At N-Flux, we take a progressive approach to Jiu Jitsu focusing both on sport and self-defense. While we are NOT yet an official 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu affiliate, we focus largely on the 10th Planet system for guidance in our development. We are grateful to work with 10th Planet Black Belts JM Holland and Zach Maslany, owners of Finishers MMA and 10th Planet Bethlehem, and receive our ranks under them. Keeping in line with the creative and eclectic nature of the 10th Planet system we also look to other styles like Judo, MMA and the various forms of wrestling to integrate in our practice.

What to Expect

All of our classes are open to all levels of skill and experience. Beginners are welcome and encouraged and more advanced practitioners are welcome and encouraged. We have an almost completely even balance of women and men sharing the mats.

We pride ourselves on our mat culture. Be a good partner, leave ego behind, roll to learn, and you’ll fit right in.

What to Bring

Please wear a shirt that covers your shoulders. If you do not own a rashguard (the spandex top normally worn in no gi jiu jitsu) any tighter-fit shirt with sleeves will work.

Mouthpieces are encouraged, but not mandatory for your first class. If you decide to take more classes, a mouthpiece is a must.
