Functional Fitness Fundamentals

OUR STORY

At N-Flux, we take a very intentional approach to fitness. To us, fitness is about evolving and adapting to a constantly changing environment to interact with the world more meaningfully.

We take a great deal from the work of Georges Hébert. In Hébert’s work “The Natural Method” and his philosophy known as Hébertism he recognized that there are 10 basic skills that all indigenous peoples developed for survival. We further broke these skills down into these categories

  1. Traversing your environment (running, jumping, climbing, crawling)

  2. Moving heavy objects safely (barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, sandbags, etc.)

  3. Mobility work (regaining and maintaining strength through your body’s full range of motion)

Herbért focused on extending beyond physical development to cultivate skills like self-discipline, courage, and a sense of service and community. At N-Flux we embrace this philosophy.  Training is about what you can do for yourself and in the service of others. So, whether it’s making the trek for groceries, helping a friend to move furniture, competing in a Spartan Race with friends, going for a trail run, marching for a better world, or protecting yourself and loved ones - we’ve got you covered.

What to Expect

Each class is programmed with an intention in mind to improve specific elements of fitness. You can expect a blend of strength, conditioning, and mobility programmed in effective and creative ways. We utilize a variety of equipment including barbells, monkey bars, plyometric boxes, pull-up stations, row machines, dip stations, kettlebells, dumbbells, sandbags, steel maces, resistance bands, assault bikes, ski ergs, and more to keep things interesting.

To aid in your journey we’ve created a list of challenges for you to work towards. Some challenges take a month or two and some can take years. These challenges are to help you stay focused on your fitness journey. The smaller challenges actually help you to grow towards the larger challenges. The process of adapting to these challenges helps us to understand how long-term sustainable growth happens.

You do not need to have any prior fitness experience to take this class. Beginners are welcome and encouraged. The only way to improve your fitness is to delve into it. We’re here to challenge, support, and encourage you.
